(Previously called Fire and Tools Skills)
Teachers, facilitators and community groups often worry about doing
outdoor activities because of health and safety fears. With the right
training and support you don’t have to be afraid of it anymore.
Children need risky outside play and until relatively recently, it was a natural part of the childhood experience. It helps to develop resilience, risk
management, problem solving and executive functioning skills.
Join us here at OutLET for a two day practical course and learn how to
run FUN activities that develop skills your children can use for a lifetime.
In the Fundamentals Outdoor Skills training program you will learn how to:
- Perform risk assessments for outdoor play
- Create dynamic risk assessments
- Use fire in your setting
- Make and use hand tools
- Build a group shelter
- Use a range of knots to set up tree swings and hammocks
After you have completed this two day training course, you will be able to deliver an engaging outdoor.
With fourteen hours contact time and two hours self-study, this outdoor course can be delivered in various venues. We work to a ratio of 1:8 and will take a maximum of 16 people.
