This FAIB regulated and certificated course is delivered over 2 day with a total of 12 hours learning time, excluding breaks, and meets the syllabus standards expected by the Health & Safety Executive. The certificate is valid for 3 years from date of issue.
The course is suited for workplaces which have a level of risk which necessitates a higher level of first aid provision and training in the event of an accident. Typically, this may include educational establishments or workplaces which have processes which include:
- Looking after children, e.g. school staff, nannies, au pair, nannies, nursery and pre-school workers
- Where the risk of injury to a child is at a level which is deemed essential to have the highest level of Paediatric First Aid at Work training for those working at the workplace setting.
- Managers or other staff who have a supervisory role for other persons working in the childcare setting who have an Emergency Paediatric First Aid at Work qualification.
The outline course syllabus is:
- Role sand Responsibilities of the First Aider, including the legal aspects of first aid provision.
- Managing a first aid incident
- Conducting a Primary and Secondary Survey to establish treatment needs of the casualty.
- Deliver CPR to a casualty, including use of a defibrillator.
- Initial identification, management and treatment of blocked airway, bleeding, seizures, shock, bites, stings, burns, scalds, small cuts / bruises / grazes, splinters, nose bleeds, fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, poisons, anaphylaxis, diabetes, asthma, extremes of temperature, eye injuries, measles, meningitis, heart attack, angina, and cardiac arrest.
