Course Description –
This SQA accredited unit is designed to enable you to gain knowledge and understanding of additional support needs of children and young people and how to meet those needs in practice in relation to current legislation and policy.
The course will investigate agencies and professionals offering support to children and young people with additional support needs and their families.
You will have the opportunity to observe and evaluate strategies used to support children and young people with additional support needs in real situations. You will also have the chance to reflect on these strategies and apply them to your own practice.
The course starts off with an introduction to the concept of ‘additional support needs’ followed by an analysis and evaluation of the theory that you are expected to apply to practice.
The topics studied will introduce you to the importance of understanding the factors that influence additional support needs and allow you to explore ways of successfully supporting a range of additional support needs including behaviour.
This course also enables learners to assess and evaluate additional support needs in children and young people by applying a range of observational techniques.
