Building Children’s Understanding of Numeracy and Mathematics

This course is one in a series of Early Years Scotland mini self study courses to support effective early years practice and will increase understanding and knowledge of numeracy and maths in the early years.

Participants will:

increase and strengthen their own knowledge and understanding of developmentally appropriate early learning and the importance of building on children’s previous knowledge and experience
understand the importance of engaging children in a range of maths and numeracy experiences to increase key knowledge and skills
understand and confidently utilise strategies to support effective approaches to early maths development in settings
feel confident and know how to apply this learning to their practice with children and families

Early Years Scotland Professional Learning Academy has a robust system of evaluation and quality assurance. Our approach to quality assurance is based on partnership, fairness and transparency. Centre and Qualification Approval is based on SQA approved policy and procedure where appropriate, ensuring best practice in the development and conduct of assessment for regulated qualifications. All assessed courses follow SQA’s principles of assessment and would be subject to internal and external verification procedures. Specialists from across the sector are involved in an ongoing programme of development and evaluation in order to ensure our materials are up to date and relevant. All participants on our courses are invited to feedback on their experiences through direct communications, evaluations, forums and critical friend opportunities and this feedback informs improvement planning within the service. If any individual is dissatisfied with the service received, we would seek to resolve this quickly and fairly.
