Nature Play and Nurture

3-day learner-centred CPL plus observation visit to Nature Play and Nurture session. For all Early Years staff (age 2 up to early primary) who would like to add nature to the experiences they provide; extend and explore nature provision; find new ways to help children build wellbeing and learning capacities; visit nearby woodlands and wild areas; develop nursery and school outdoor areas; and/or bring nature indoors.

Day 1: Yourself in Nature. Become aware of how nature makes you feel. Reflect upon variety of affordance & opportunity provided by a woodland environment. Deepen your personal connection with the woodland.

Observation: Children in Nature An opportunity to observe a small group of children participating in a Nature Play & Nurture session.

Day 2: Practitioner in Nature Reflect. Explore key play and exploration themes seen at NP&N sessions. Audit play spaces & woodland environments for potential and pitfalls. Learn key skills for working in woodland.

Day 3: Skill Building & Action Planning: Risk assessment outdoors. Remaining questions answered. Building and developing further skills to support learners’ needs. Individual action plans.

FSTC have been delivering highly regarded Forest School, Nature Play and Nurture and Outdoor First Aid training in Scotland for ten years and are currently Scotland’s most experienced Forest School trainers. FSTC have a team of trainers and work regularly with Forestry Commission Scotland, East and Mid-Lothian Councils, Edinburgh Council, and North & South Lanarkshire councils, amongst others. Lead trainer Aline Hill is a passionate Forest School trainer and practitioner of twelve years’ experience. Her areas of particular expertise are early years, primary school and adults with health and well being issues. She holds M(Ed) distinction level, Children in the Outdoors 0-5. She currently works with an experienced team of co-leaders, assistants and developing tutors to deliver training.
