Paediatric First Aid (2 days)

This qualification provides the necessary skills and knowledge to deal with a range of emergencies involving children. On completion, candidates will be able to recognise and manage childhood medical conditions, as well as being able to provide emergency treatment until the arrival of the emergency medical services.

Training for Care is a Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) approved centre specialising in adult social care and childcare training. We deliver Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs), Short Courses and other vocational programmes to meet the regulatory and CPL requirements of the sector. As an educational charity, established in 1982, we have a long history of providing high quality learner focussed training to all levels of staff in the sector from support workers to managers. Training for Care is based in Edinburgh and delivers training throughout Scotland. Training for Care has a range of short courses that have been developed to meet specific childcare sector mandatory and continuous professional learning (CPL) requirements. All our courses are available for group bookings, we also run an open course programme suitable for small numbers or individual bookings. We have four main subject areas for our short courses – Epilepsy, First Aid, Food Hygiene and Manual Handling. All courses are led by qualified and experienced subject specialists, with Course Directors and lead tutors to oversee quality assurance.

We have four main subject areas for our short courses – Epilepsy, First Aid, Food Hygiene and Manual Handling. For all 4 main subject areas we have a Course Director, who is employed as a subject specialist, to oversee the quality of the training, ensure currency of course content and provide professional advice to Training for Care and our customers. We have external awarding body approval where required and certification meets current guidelines and statutory requirements. Our course content is designed or adapted to recognise childcare sector values and demands and can be tailored to your needs. All members of our training team are qualified and experienced in their subject areas. For our First Aid Courses, Training for Care is an Approved Training Centre (ATC) with Safety Training Awards (STA). STA’s aim as an awarding organisation is to promote consistency, high standards and learner/public confidence in its qualifications. We have an Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) who carries out an on-site assessment of our tutors annually. For our Moving and Handling courses, all trainers are registered health care professionals who are experienced in current Moving and Handling safe practice and have a specific interest or specialism in paediatric manual handling. Our courses have been developed to meet the Scottish Manual Handling Passport (2014) curriculum. Our Food Hygiene Courses are delivered by a REHIS approved trainer and certificated through REHIS and our Course Director has over 30 years of experience of working in food safety and infection control. As an SQA Approved Centre we hold a quality manual of policies and procedures that are reviewed and updated on a regular basis to meet SQA standards. For each course we ask participants to provide written feedback which is reviewed by the Course Director and Short Course Manager. We use this feedback to continually improve our short course provision to meet the changing needs of the sector. Training for Care aims to provide quality training that not only meets the needs and requirements of the childcare sector, but also contributes positively to the quality of childcare service provision. For each course we ask participants to provide written feedback which is reviewed by the Course Director and Senior Manager for Training Provision and Quality. We use this feedback to continually improve our short course provision to meet the changing needs of the sector. We try to avoid complaints in the first instance by providing a quality service. We encourage customers to raise any issues with staff, and where a customer has an issue we attempt to deal with this promptly to avoid escalation. Any complaints are passed on to the Senior Manager for Training Provision and Quality to investigate and respond, with consultation with the Course Director. If unresolved, we will refer the complainant to our complaints procedure.
